Stimulus Package and Socialism

Socialism.

I said it.

Socialism.

As Montoya says in "The Princess Bride", I say to conservatives and most right wing pundits: You keep saying that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I am not going to go into the actual discussion about what socialist theories mean and what they are, please refer to Google for such a wast of space. No, I am going to focus on What they think it means and why they are wrong and misleading most people.

Most Right-Wingers are taking this word, Socialism, and telling everyone else that the new government will be taking their money and doling it out to everyone around them, especially poor people. People who do not work and are lazy will be receiving checks of your money to keep them in their entitlement lifestyle.

This line of thought is wrong for many, many reasons. First, we have taxes, that is the same thing. Everyone pays a different amount based upon their own personal gains and income, meaning everyone pays money to a big pot that may or may not be redistributed to others that do not make as much money. Second, the idea that being poor or unemployed or on welfare is a break or a vacation is tragically flawed. The idea that people who do not work and do not want to work is a majority feeling is simply asinine. Most people who do not or cannot work would give anything to be able to support their families and selves. These are just two of the crazy thoughts associated with the new right wing idea of socialism.

Progressives will not bring this idea to America.
